Relaxing Reading Retreats at A Place to Read Corwen

A Place to Read provides week-long and weekend residential reading retreats for book lovers of all ages in an inspiring place to read and relax. We are situated on the edge of the Berwyn Mountains in North Wales, overlooking the stunning Dee Valley, in the historic Victorian property Bron Y Graig which was built by a former sheriff of Denbighshire in 1888. Our retreats provide the perfect opportunity for a relaxing, literary holiday with time and space to read and relax among fellow book lovers.

All of our guests enjoy full-board accommodation in one of our spacious ensuite bedrooms, with homecooked meals and refreshments, and a choice of places and spaces to enjoy well-earned me-time. At A Place To Read our retreats offer a structured schedule with inbuilt flexibility to suit your individual needs, including the option of a guided tour of the ancient hill fort at Caer Drewyn. We even provide a complimentary pick-up and drop-off from the nearest mainline station for those travelling to us by public transport, and on most retreats dogs are welcome too*.​

We recommend a novella or short novel for reading on all our retreats, and we provide a complimentary copy of the text for our guests. The text is carefully chosen for its manageable length, the accessibility of its language and themes, and its suitability for a range of readers. There is an optional informal discussion of this book on the final afternoon of the retreat. Retreaters are also invited to bring their own choice of reading material to supplement the recommended read and guests can also draw from the extensive library at A Place to Read.

Aside from time to read, guests on our residential reading retreats can book a massage, enjoy a drink in our licensed bar, watch a movie, or simply retreat to a space to read and relax in a public area or in the privacy of their own bedroom. Everything is optional and the retreat is designed to allow each guest to use the time in their own way and to its best advantage for their own needs. By the end of one of our residential reading retreats you will not only have added your own reading list achievements but, in the time away from the digital world of distractions, you will have lowered your cortisol levels, restored your attention span, developed your critical thinking skills, and developed your network of book lovers.

Whichever part of our programme interests you, Nic and Wendy will support you as much or as little as you want and guide you through your stay. Prices range from £295-£445 for a fully inclusive residential weekend reading retreat and £445 to £695 for a fully inclusive Monday to Friday residential reading retreat - all with your own spacious bedroom with kingsize bed.

*If the accompanying dog option is available on a retreat, your pet is welcome to join us. The only restriction is that dogs are generally not allowed in the dining room and one reading room.
